Flying Sites

Conejo Quiet Flyer (CQF) Sites

The Quiet Flyers have made arrangements with the Conejo Recreation and Park District for club activities at the following locations. Generally flying is permitted whenever the relevant fields are open and not otherwise in use.

Rancho Conejo Playfields

The Rancho Conejo Playfields are located just north of Hillcrest Drive on Ventu Park Road. We meet at the basketball court and fly over the adjacent soccer field and baseball diamond, which provide about three acres of open turf. The site is extremely popular with some members who can be found flying there even on non-club mornings.

Wildflower Playfield

The Wildflower Playfield is located near Lynne Road and Avenida Del Los Arboles. From Los Arboles, turn onto Canna Street and the parking lot will be immediately on the left. We meet at the edge of the parking lot, and fly over about four acres of open turf.

Other Sites

These sites are also popular with some members of the Quiet Flyers, although they are not officially affiliated with the club.

Paramount Ranch

The National Park Service has dedicated a 0.8 mile oval portion of a former racetrack to electric RC aircraft at Paramount Ranch. The park is open daily from 8 a.m. to sunset, and charges no admission or parking fees. While pilots may be found flying anytime the weather permits, Saturday and Sunday mornings pilots gather to chat and fly. The whole family can enjoy the old west movie sets and the nature talks/walks. After turning into the entrance, take a right onto the dirt road at the T and park along the side of the road near the bridge. The pilots meet immediately on the far side of the bridge near the sign. The site provides about 10 acres of cut field. One minor note of caution--there are couple trees to which aircraft seem strangely attracted.

Conejo Creek South Park

North of the soccer fields is an old parking lot. Pilots tend to park on the east side, flying over the untended section (about four acres) to the north of the old parking lot. Sunday from 8 a.m. to about 9:30 a.m. several pilots are often there, with smaller groups flying most Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.

Apollo XI Field

Apollo XI Field in Balboa Park is perhaps the best-known RC field in the Los Angeles area. The field is owned by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks and generously developed and maintained by the San Fernando Valley Radio Control Flyers. This amazing facility has paved runways and taxiways, dedicated helicopter and U-control areas, and generous amenities such as shaded workbenches and charging outlets. It is open from sunrise to sunset daily.
